Fantastic Four; A Stretch Or Fire?
The Fantastic 4 is a famous superhero group under the Marvel banner. There was a Fantastic 4 movie in 2005, and a sequel in 2007, Rise of the Silver Surfer. These movies, created by Fox, were not well received and do not have very high ratings.
A reboot has been announced that will release this year. This is similar to the 2012 Sony reboot of the Spiderman series with The Amazing Spider-Man. Fox, as they still own the rights to the Fantastic 4 name, are trying again. As this film will not be made made by Marvel Studios, it probably won’t be related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe either.
Some people are feeling shaky because of the previous films and the fact Fox is making it again. Fox also just put out X-Men: Days of Future Past, which was a great movie. It’s possible they can do it again here.
The story is the same as it has always been- four scientists go into space, and through an accident, receive supernatural powers and use them to save the world. There is currently only a teaser trailer out, so there’s not a lot of information on how the story will be told differently this go around. Something notable things to take note of was the cast, with Kate Mara (House of Cards) playing Sue Storm, Miles Teller (Project X, Divergent) playing Reed Richards and Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, That Awkward Movement) playing Johnny Storm.
The movie visually looks really great from the few shots in the teaser trailer. As long as the writing is solid, and the special effects are engrossing, the film should be a success. And if it’s anything like the last X-Men movie, it just might be fantastic.
